Updated and Revised Chemical Data Tables Available

CDC's National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals (referred to as the National Exposure Report) includes summary data for chemicals that have results available from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) starting with the 1999–2000 cycle. The National Exposure Report is cumulative and includes all data tables previously published. This version of the National Exposure Report:

  • Updates 40 data tables for 20 chemicals measured in serum specimens
  • Revises 4 data tables for 2 chemicals measured in packed red blood cell specimens
  • Revises 14 data tables for 7 chemicals measured in urine specimens

Chemicals with revised data

Adducts (2005-06, 2013-14 and 2015-16)

Found in Analysis of Whole Blood, Serum, and Urine Samples, NHANES 1999-2018

The footnotes of 4 tables in the Adducts group have been updated to include revised limits of detection. These updates are consistent with NHANES cycles 2005-2006, 2013-2014, and 2015-2016. The footnotes now contain updated information for the following chemicals:

  • Acrylamide Hemoglobin Adduct
  • Glycidamide Hemoglobin Adduct

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Metabolites (NHANES 2015-16)

Found in Analysis of Whole Blood, Serum, and Urine Samples, NHANES 1999-2018

14 tables from the Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH) Metabolites group have been revised to correct a statistical software programming error that affected the "Total Population" percentile estimates for NHANES cycle 2015-2016. For the total population, the calculation for all percentiles were revised to include participants aged 3 years and older for the PAH analytes below. The updated information is now reflected in 14 tables for the following chemicals:

  • 2-Hydroxyfluorene
  • 3-Hydroxyfluorene
  • 1-Hydroxyphenanthrene
  • 2- & 3-Hydroxyphenanthrene
  • 1-Hydroxypyrene
  • 1-Hydroxynapthalene (1-Naphthol)
  • 2-Hydroxynapthalene (2-Naphthol)
